Originally, Custom Design Sweater Studio sold only hand knitted custom design baby and toddler sweater and hat sets (see "Sweaters for All Sizes"). Gradually, things have changed. Over the past several years, there has been a tremendous increase in the number of inquiries concerning one of a kind, personalized hand knitted adult sweaters. Now, nearly all of my customers request adult sweater designs. A hand knitted, custom designed adult sweater is a fine investment. It will outlast anything you can buy at the mall, and will fit you far better than something mass produced.
Most of my customers have their adult sweaters custom designed just for them. In other words, they tell me what they want, and I design and knit it for them. Some of these designs are highly specialized, such as a landscape sweater featuring an American eagle designed for an environmentalist, or sweater with a cello design, complete with silver metallic "strings" on the instrument and the bow, for a professional cellist in London.

If you are particular about the fit of your sweaters, I encourage you to send me something that fits you, like a sweatshirt or old sweater, so I can measure it. You could include a note when you send it, for instance saying something like, "I'd like my new sweater to be two inches longer in the body and sleeves than this one." That way, I will have the exact measurements to use for the new design. I will return both when the new design is ready. I promise I will take good care of your garment! When choosing a garment to send to me for measuring, please keep these two things in mind: please don't send me a stretchy garment to measure, like a ribbed sweater (stretchy garments are smaller when spread out flat to measure than when you are actually wearing them), and please make sure that the garment is clean. You would not believe some of the things that people send me! Due to the width of a home knitting machine, sweaters size extra-large or larger will be knitted in panels. While most of my customers want to have sweaters and/or matching hats designed and knitted for them, sometimes I get unusual requests as well. Here's a photo of a custom designed, hand knitted bar stool pillow, given by a young man to his girlfriend on her birthday. Zarela was absolutely delighted!
Here is another example of an unusual request - the briefs shown in the photos below were designed to be worn by a gentleman as part of a Halloween costume, over tights (and underneath a cape!). The customer described to me exactly what he wanted, submitted a sketch with measurements, etc., and together, we came up with designs for these striped briefs. Knitted from pure cotton, these briefs are designed to be comfortable, but are not designed to be worn as undergarments.
