Custom Sweaters - One of a Kind Sweaters. I've been knitting since I was seven years old. I never could leave a sweater pattern alone, always changing something, adding pockets, moving a neckline up or down a little, widening a sleeve, tapering a side seam, etc. I knitted my first sweater for my second grade school photo. It was a proud moment! Knitting unique, original sweaters has been my pleasure and my passion since I was a child (and I don't want to tell you exactly how many years ago that really was).

Custom Design Sweater Studio originally sold only hand knitted baby sweater outfits, with matching pants and rollbrim hats. I would knit all year on my home knitting machine, saving up dozens of baby sweater outfits, and in the fall, I would sell them at local crafts shows. The heirloom quality and distinct character of these one-of-a-kind designs made the sweaters very popular. Dinosaurs, bunnies, sheep, cows, flowers - every one of these sweaters was special to me. I still have customers from those crafts shows. Many of them encouraged me to sell my original, one of a kind designs in boutiques and local stores, which I have done.

Then along came the internet, and wow, did things change. All of my business now comes from the internet, and nearly all of the sweaters which I design are for ladies and men. Each of the custom designs is very unique. I've had some interesting requests over the years. Not all of these requests involved sweaters, either. For instance:

an extra-large, extra long, bright orange crewneck cardigan sweater, with deep patch pockets and large, round black buttons;
a black turtleneck pullover sweater with a double-thick turtleneck;
a pastel green pullover with three dark green turtles on it;
a black cardigan sweater with a shirt-type open collar and multi-colored windowpane squares of lime green, denim blue, pastel yellow and red hot;
a Roman helmet-type hat, complete with a knitted nose guard, to be used as part of a model's costume in a fashion show in New York City;
a floor-length dark blue "sweater coat" to be used by a pastor who preaches in a mall;
a striped pullover sweater to be used in an exhibit in a museum of horror films;
a sweater to be used by a Broadway show producer;
a deep V-neck pullover with a rigid, very firm standup collar six inches deep;
a detailed, complicated red hot and ivory sweater for a manufacturer in South Carolina;
several custom knitted designs for a customer who owns a boutique in Australia.

Each one of a kind design was a pleasure to work on. Most of my customers write to me after they receive their custom designs, with comments and compliments. Sometimes, customers will write to me years later, to tell me that they are still enjoying wearing the one of a kind design sweaters I knitted for them.

Here's a good example of the type of requests I receive for one-of-a-kind sweaters:

A customer wrote to me from San Francisco, telling me that for years, he had been looking for a sweater like the one worn by his favorite comic strip character, the Blue Beetle. He sent me sketches and links to various photos online, and after a few emails, we settled on this design, in colors Yale blue (a rich, deep shade of royal blue), poplin (a lighter shade of blue, darker than baby blue), and black. Note the hemmed cuffs and bottom edge, and narrow neckline ribbing:

The gentleman who ordered this custom sweater wrote to me after he received the sweater. Here's what he said:
